a home for poets.

We believe stories matter. They will be here long after we are gone. Sunday Mornings at the River prints poetry books and helps authors realise their publishing dreams. Our aim is to create a thriving literary community where we focus on healthy and inclusive collaborations.

We believe a poet’s job is much like what Salman Rushdie wrote in his novel The Satanic Verses: a poet’s work is to name the unnamable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world and stop it from going to sleep. This is the kind of poetry we are looking for and publish.

Equality and inclusivity are the magical words at our headquarters (which is an old wooden dining table with too many coffee rings on it). We believe the traditional publishing businesses hold way too much power. The only power we believe in is people power. We believe that everyone has the right to be heard.

We pride ourselves in being an independent publisher. We will stay dedicated to knocking down doors and emancipating makers to publish their own poetry books without the need of a big bag of money. We want to be that one person we needed when we started discovering our creative nature and didn't know what to do with it.

This is a fantastic collection of ACTUAL poetry, not Instagram one-liners and recycled affirmations. The voices in this book are diverse and overall I was very impressed and inspired by what I read throughout its pages. I like it so much I’m ordering another one!

I thoroughly enjoyed the collection and each poem has been selected with love by the editor. These are poems with subsistence, beautiful imagery, varied forms and structures and although very much of the times, feel akin to any collection of poetry from any era.

Sunday Mornings at the River have managed to gather a wonderful collection of poets, and poems, showing the messy juxtapositions that make life beautiful. One to watch quarterly, as a curation of contemporary poetic talent, that must not be missed.

We would be honoured to read your work. There are no themes, no restrictions or rules, but we do ask you to read through the guidelines and greatly discourage simultaneous submissions because it takes time for us to read your poetry. More info here.

Besides our Quarterly Anthologies, we also started working on special editions which evolve around a theme. Submissions for the following projects are now open: Africa and Covid-19. Read about them here.

We are always on the lookout for: essays, articles, book reviews which are related to poetry on our blog. We are also looking for stories behind the poems we have published or interviews with the poets we published. Read more here.
